英语系现有现有专任教师27名，其中硕士生导师8名、教授3名、副教授13名、讲师8名，博士学位获得者2名、在读博士3名，外籍教师7名，90%以上教师具有海外留学、访学或研修经历。近年来，英语系教学团队治学严谨，教风端正，先后在《外语教学与研究》《现代外语》《外语教学》等国内外著名学术刊物发表论文100余篇，出版专著、译著、教材30余部；多位教师主持和参与了国家社科基金项目、教育部人文社科基金项目、甘肃省社科规划基金项目、甘肃省教育厅科研项目等，成果斐然；青年教师在各级各类讲课比赛中取得优异成绩。

英语专业培养具有扎实的英语语言基础知识、熟练的语言基本技能、较强的语言应用能力、良好的人文素养以及具备工科背景，能在外事、经贸、文化、新闻出版、教育、科研、旅游等部门从事翻译、研究、教学、管理等工作的具有国际视野及创新精神的德才兼备的应用型高级专门人才。

主修课程：综合英语、高级英语、英语口语、英语听力、基础英语写作、高级英语写作、英语翻译理论基础、英汉语言对比、语言学、英国文学、美国文学、英语国家概况、科技英语阅读、科技英语翻译、商务英语、国际贸易理论与实务等。

英语专业学生有机会申请我校与港台及欧美国家合作高校的交换生项目，前往海外留学深造；也可以参加赴美带薪实习项目，提升语言实践能力。学生多次在全国写作、翻译及口译大赛中获得一、二等奖的好成绩；毕业生广泛活跃于国内外经贸、外事、教育、科研、旅游等领域，从事翻译、教学、管理、研究等工作，涌现出一批造福社会的行业精英。

English Department

English Department has 27 Chinese teachers  including 8 research supervisors, 12 professors and associate professors and 7 lecturers, as well as 7 overseas staff. 90% of the teachers studied or received training in overseas universities. The teaching team of the English Department is rigorous in academic study and excellent in teaching style. Its members made substantial contributions to academic research, published more than 100 papers in key academic journals, such as Foreign Language Education and Shandong Foreign Language Teaching Journal. In recent years, teachers published more than 30 books, translated works and textbooks. Several teachers have chaired or taken part in academic programs conducted by the Ministry of Education of China and the Department of Education of Gansu Province. In addition, several teachers won awards in provincial and national teaching competitions.

English Department aims at training students with a broad vision, innovative spirit and sound morality via equipping students with a solid English foundation and excellent language skills. The Department offers both social science and engineering courses to enable the students to be competent for positions related to translation, academic research, teaching and management in the fields of foreign affairs, trade and economy, cultural exchange, press media, education, academic research and tourism after graduation. The major courses include Comprehensive English, Advanced English, English Speaking, English Listening, Basic English Writing, Advanced English Writing, Translation Theories and Practice, English and Chinese Languages Comparison, Linguistics, English Literature, American Literature, Survey of English-speaking Countries, EST Reading, EST Translation, Commercial English, International Trade Theory and Practice and many others.

Students in the English Department have opportunities to further their study by applying to exchange programs cosponsored by the School and schools in Hongkong, Taiwan, and the United States as well as several European countries. They can also take part in paid internship programs in the United States to further develop their English competence. Our students have won various awards in many national English competitions such as speaking, writing and English-Chinese Interpretation contests. Graduates from the English Department are now found in the fields of foreign affairs, trade and economy, education, scientific research and tourism, undertaking jobs related to translation, interpretation, academic research, teaching and management, making their due contribution to the whole society.
